The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
